Supervision

Supervision is a growing profession, used not only by psychotherapists and counsellors but also by other professionals who work in the human services sector.

The practice of clinical supervision comes originally from the psychoanalytical conviction that the therapist must dedicate time to understanding the self they bring into the therapeutic encounter in order to maximize their ability to untangle what comes from themselves from what is coming from the client while drawing on the benefits interpersonal connectedness.

Leftbank Institute has a number of supervisors from diverse backgrounds who work from a unifying existential perspective. We are available to provide supervision/consultation to groups and teams. Generally, these sessions occur on a regular basis and allow a forum for:

  • reviewing practice,
  • identifying and exploring successes
  • dealing with problem issues such as “stuck” cases

Our orientation at Leftbank is to draw from all traditions using the unifying concepts of existential philosophy in order to provide trainees with the opportunity to discover what works best for them.

Existential supervisors embrace duties, responsibilities and tasks with an emphasis on the relationship realms that lie at the heart of human existence.

Existential supervision offers the chance to gain alternative perspectives and to explore the existential issues that arise.

Supervision is a confidential and exceptional process that enhances the professional’s awareness and enables them to work in a more open and reflective manner.

We offer individual and group supervision as well as training groups of 10 to 15.
