Nicci began working in the community sector and trained as a Community Development worker with a focus on social action and social change. After working with a range of marginalized communities and groups which includes: women and addictions; youth homelessness; the sex industry; young women and pregnancy and family violence. Nicci retrained in Social Work with the specific idea of wanting to work therapeutically and more deeply.

After qualifying for her BSW Nicci worked at the Northern Centre Against Sexual Assault (NCASA) working with individual women, men and children who had been sexually assaulted. She also co-facilitated a range of therapeutic groups for survivors of sexual assault as well as partners of survivors including same sex attracted individuals and couples. Through this work Nicci recognised the need to support couples facing issues relating to sexual assault and did her couples training at Relationships Australia Victoria. Nicci has developed a strong interest in couple’s psychotherapy with a psychoanalytic perspective and was president of the Australian Association of Relationship Counsellors (Victorian and Tasmanian branches) for two years.

Upon leaving NCASA Nicci managed the Victorian AID’s Council’s Counselling Services and developed a range of new initiatives and programs including: expanding the volunteer program to include orientation days, an internship program, professional development days, and the supervisors program. The service expanded from just working with individuals to include couples and the development of the therapeutic groups program. Nicci developed the first Men’s Behaviour Change Program for gay and bi-sexual men and went on to create the Same Sex Domestic Violence Project which later on became a joint project with the ALSO Foundation. During this period Nicci completed her psychoanalytic training through the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists.

In 2009 Nicci went into fulltime private practice covering both Melbourne and Geelong working with individuals and couples. Nicci is also providing individual and group supervision in both the public and private sectors.
